Daisy’s 250th Anniversary Red Ryder BB guns celebrate shooting sports, safety, and tradition.
by Jace Bauserman
My first introduction to a Red Ryder was when I was six years old. I watched the movie A Christmas Story with my Mom and Dad. From that moment on, I was Ralphie Parker, the main character in the movie.
Why? Like Ralphie, all I wanted was a Red Ryder BB Gun.
The Problem: My parents weren’t gun owners. They weren’t anti-gun, but they didn’t hunt, fish, or shoot. That was just the way it was.
Finally, at age 8, my Dad cracked. He caved and bought me a Red Ryder. I owe that lever-action a lot. No aluminum cans, boxes, paper, or birds on the feeder (don’t tell Mom) were safe. That rifle developed a love of shooting in me.
Two years later, after lots of begging and pleading, Dad let me take my hunter’s safety course. He’d bought me a single-shot 20-gauge, and because I was reading every outdoor magazine I could get my hands on, I longed to start hunting.
As I wrote earlier, I owe that Red Ryder a lot. The first time I shot that BB gun, I knew I wanted to do something in the outdoors for a living. I didn’t want to play shortstop for the Yanks or hit a homer at Wrigley. I wanted to write about hunting adventures and gear, and to see my byline regularly in top-end outdoor publications.
Thank you, Daisy Outdoor Products. I’m sure you know this, but my story is only one. I can’t imagine the legions of hunters you’ve kickstarted.
What Is Daisy Outdoor Products?
Daisy Outdoor Products is a cherished name in the world of air guns and outdoor leisure, renowned for its iconic Daisy Red Ryder BB gun. Founded in 1886, the company began manufacturing air rifles and has since become synonymous with childhood memories of adventure and exploration. The classic Red Ryder, introduced in the 1940s, has enchanted generations, much like it did for me at six years old.
Daisy’s mission is to inspire outdoor activities and nurture a love for shooting sports among youth and adult shooters alike. The Red Ryder is not just a toy; it serves as an introduction to responsible gun ownership and marksmanship. The company emphasizes safety by offering programs such as the “Daisy Air Gun Safety Course,” aimed at promoting responsible use.

Daisy Launches Three Red Ryders To Celebrate America’s 250
For 2026, Daisy launches a trio of new Red Ryder models: Two carbine lever actions and revolver. The pair of Red Ryder Carbine Lever Actions has all the coveted features of standard Red Ryder. The difference comes in the look. The Freedom and the Liberty are branded with their respective names on the butt stock, and the forearms read, “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness…the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Daisy made only 250 of these Limited-Edition Red Ryder Carbine BB guns (each model), so act fast.

The Red Ryder Revolver is my favorite. I’m a sucker for a sweet-looking revolver, and this compact .177 Cal. (4.5mm) BB gun is a beauty. Powered by CO2, the BB pistol, like the pair of carbine lever-action rifles, is ideal for backyard plinking, taking afield, or any other activity that a BB-gun goer can dream up as long as it’s safe and legal.
The Red Ryder Revolver features an 18-round BB reservoir, crossbolt safety, and a functioning hammer. The loading gate and extractor are foolproof, and this single-action revolver promises fun and safe shooting.
This limited-edition model (only 1,776 made) has a 250th Anniversary Medallion embedded on both sides of the pistol grips and “…the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” on the tang.

August and NSSF
I can’t help but feel that National Shooting Sports Month plays a vital role in introducing new generations to the values of marksmanship and safety. It’s not just about shooting; it’s about community, camaraderie, and the shared experience of enjoying the great outdoors with firearms.
Throughout August, various events and activities are organized, from range days to educational workshops, reinforcing the importance of gun safety and responsible ownership. This month serves as a reminder of why shooting sports are not just hobbies but avenues for joy, skill development, and lifelong friendships. Just as that Red Ryder shaped my path, National Shooting Sports Month continues to inspire many to embark on their outdoor journeys, encouraging us all to celebrate freedom and responsibility together.
In addition to the month-long celebration, the NSSF is hosting its Annual Import/Export Conference from August 4 to August 6, 2026. This industry-specific event is taking place at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Washington, D.C. It is widely regarded as a leading event for professionals in the firearms industry, focusing on regulatory compliance and international trade issues.
Final Thoughts
Looking back, it’s funny how one simple BB gun can change the direction of a person’s life.
The Red Ryder wasn’t just a Christmas gift or a way to spend an afternoon in the backyard. For me, it was the beginning. It taught me to slow down, pay attention, and respect the equipment in my hands. More importantly, it opened the door to the outdoors.
That is what makes Daisy’s new 250th Anniversary Red Ryders so special. They honor an American tradition while giving today’s shooters something new to appreciate. The Freedom and Liberty carbines carry a meaningful connection to the nation’s founding ideals. At the same time, the Red Ryder Revolver brings a classic look and plenty of plinking appeal to the lineup.
Of course, the most important part of shooting is safety. Every BB gun should be handled responsibly, used in an appropriate place, and enjoyed with proper supervision when young shooters are involved. Those lessons matter just as much today as they did when I was a kid.
I still owe my first Red Ryder a lot. It sparked a passion, shaped a career, and gave me countless memories with family and friends. One of these limited-edition models may do the same for another future hunter, writer, or outdoorsperson.
